VICTORY!!!

Comic Fiesta returns with over 70,000 attendees this year, remaining Malaysia's biggest ACG event and a must-go for illustrators, comic artists, cosplayers, and fans across Southeast Asia.

Appearing at this year’s Comic Fiesta was a star-studded lineup of Japanese Voice Actors (Seiyuu). The leads from the anime Re:Zero, Yusuke Kobayashi who voices Subaru Natsuki, and Rie Takahashi who voices Emilia

Rie Takahashi and Yusuke Kobayashi

During the Re:Zero panel the two seiyuu were greeted with roaring cheers from fans. They shared with the fans what their favorite moment was from the recently completed season 3 of the anime.

In Season 3 Episode 7: The Newest of Heroes and the Most Ancient of Heroes, during the scene of Subaru’s broadcasting a message of hope to fearful trapped citizens and his comrades spread out across the city, inspiring them.

Fans were treated to a reenactment of that scene through a live dubbing session by Kobayashi and Takahashi.

They also shared with fans how the scene was recorded perfectly in just one take, utterly raising the morale in the recording studio. They shared how as actors, they too have journeyed alongside the characters seeing them face impossible odds and feeling the weight of the situation.

It was in this scene in the story where things turned around and for Kobayashi, the rise of Subaru to herohood.

EMT

Also celebrating the release of the rising new hit Solo Leveling and its upcoming second season was Taito Ban, the voice behind the protagonist Sung Jin-woo, also gave a live dubbing session.

He even used his original script he auditioned with, showing off his seiyuu skill of flipping a script one-handed while making no noise that interferes with the mic recording.

Taito Ban dubbing

Ban shared how he feels in sync with Jin Woo and that playing the role feels so natural to him. Normally he has to mentally flip a switch when voicing characters, but for Jin Woo he didn’t need that ‘switch’ to get into the role.

To showcase his point, Ban tells about his audition for the role. Usually, there are several phases of auditions, however during the very initial testing part, after delivering his line once, they stopped and thanked him and just told him he got the part.

The audience was even treated to a 15-minute sneak peek of the upcoming season 2.

As part of the celebration of the release of season 3 of Re:Zero, a special performance was held featuring the the singers for Opening and Ending of season 3. Konomi Suzuki who sang “Reweave” and KIHOW of (MYTH & ROID) who sang “Nox Lux”.

The “Suzuki Konomi and MYTH & ROID’s Special Live Performance” co-organized by Comic Fiesta and the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, served as the closing act to Comic Fiesta 2024.

Konomi Suzuki shared with fans that the opening “Reweave” was meant to convey the theme of connections and bonds, sharing the inspiration of it as she read through the light novel and seeing the impossible situations the characters had to face and how they rose to overcome them.

For KIHOW, “Nox Lux” was a showcase of past accomplishments of MYTH & ROID as well as their development to who they are now as a band. This was also the first time the song was ever performed in Malaysia.

Continuing the festivities from last year’s event, Comic Fiesta has upped the ante again as one of the region’s biggest creative art market with the introduction of over 600 unique artists and booths in total continuing to nurture the creative industry in Malaysia.

hololive returns with the hololive STAGE World Tour’24 -Soar!- concert, this time featuring Tsunomaki Watame of hololive, Moona Hoshinova and Kobo Kanaeru of hololive Indonesia, and Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina’nis, and Hakos Baelz of hololive English.

Director Naoyuki Ito and producer Kikushima Kazufumi of the hit TV anime Overlord shared with fans bout their upcoming movie, Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, airing in Malaysian cinemas sometime this January in GSC theaters nationwide.

Representing our Malaysian talent, local animators Cheeming Boey and Raymond Wong shared their knowledge and experience with the crowd at Comic Fiesta on what it’s like to be one of the foremost names in the local animation scene.

“The Love and growing interest in Japanese anime and music is spreading. I hope the bridge between Malaysia and Japan becomes stronger through cultural exchanges such as this event.”
